Isometrics - Supermarine Spitfire

The first in a series of World War II isometric drawings. Though I won't say much, I can say that between myself and fellow VPS member Cody Walker you should be seeing a fair amount of material.

This is a Supermarine Spitfire, the infamous fighter plane of the Second World War. It was so well designed, that its use carried on into the 1950s. It is most notably remembered for the Battle of Britain.

Kraken! or Seascape v2.0

A friend of mine happened along an old fake painting on the side of the road on his way from home. The painting was too intriguing to pass up, so he brought it home. He mentioned it to me, and I got him to send a picture of it:

Look at this thing! What a dismal painting. It was obvious that this painting was in dire need of help. The solution was obvious:

Giant krakens always make things better, right?

The actual "painting" is about 4' x 2', came from Eatons (the tag was still underneath the paper backing) and was presumably from that period of time when exceptionally depressing paintings were all the rage. I painted over top with acrylics, and then used a glossy medium to match the shine of the original.

A further developed set of drawings for the airship concepts shown in the last post. These are a few orthographic drawings I've done in order to solidify the general design.

The next step is to clean up the sketches in Illustrator, where I'll fiddle around with the design a little more before going on to detailed perspective drawings.

I've been doing a lot of drawing lately, but obviously I haven't been posting any of it. I really need to reinstall that scanner...

I'll be heading to Quebec City for a week on Tuesday. I hope to get some sketching while I'm there!

A Bloody Good Time

First, let it be known far and wide that I'm no particular fan of musicals (despite my long-standing RPG/musical metaphorical comparison). Even the most depressing musical productions serve out enough cheese to feed a wayfaring group of hobbits for weeks. My point being: I don't like them. However, I had not considered the variety of musical whereby the cheese is the main course, which begets a whole new sort of feast.

That brings us to Evil Dead: the Musical.

The all-you-can-eat buffet that is Evil Dead the Musical is simply as great as the movie for all the same reasons. Simply put, it's so campy, that it's impossible not to love it. It helps that you're sitting in an audience composed entirely of Evil Dead fans, maybe the coolest people to ever roam the earth. Either that or the chainsaw-wielding-smack-talking-sweet-hunk-o-man-flesh Bruce Campbell formula just works in all forms. It also helps that the songs are placed where they only serve to upgrade an amusing situation to a hysterical one.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any blood on me even though I was in the splatter zone. But I won't hold it against them since they made a deliberate effort to soak the woman wearing the wedding dress. All in all, I'd have to say it was.... wait for it.... Groovy.

(You knew it was coming, don't roll your eyes like that.)

My vote was on the Butler.

After a long hiatus, I've got some time and energy for 9999 Damage.

Like I stated earlier, this blog will only house my own personal projects that I do for my own amusement. I've started doing the groundwork for a project that I recently came up with. Check back occassionally for updates!

I've always loved technical designs since I was a kid. I used to own technical manuals for both Star Trek and Star Wars. The sheer detail they put into fictional craft always (to quote a relevant source) fascinated me. Seriously, did you know there's a restroom to the left of Worf's post on the bridge?

Anyways, this post is the result of a Sunday evening rebellion against conventional work. Of course, I should not under any circumstances be doing anything but homework.

I guess it's a good thing my girlfriend's breasts says she loves nerds.

That might be the next line to that song.

It seems the speed limit of the universe has come under some debate. Not only have some physicists manipulated sound to travel faster than light, but it also seems that they're able to slow light down to a measly 60km/h. The speed of light has always interested me in that it's the fastest we could ever go. In a manner of speaking, information can only travel as fast as light, since our primary sense is sight.

I found a good link on BoingBoing to 101 Projects for Artists and Illustrators. Its a damn good list, I think I'll keep it around for those uninspired days. Also, a little further down, there's a great tutorial on how to make a digital palette - something I've always felt that digital paint programs lacked.

Yet still more sketches from one sketchbook year ago. This time it's a random conglomeration of made up people and caricatures.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to get some joint blog projects going to alleviate the boredom brought upon by school work; so far Stacy and Halya are in on a "Create a new MSN picture" project. Anyone else want in, or have other ideas, let me know!

Black and White

Here's a coloured sketch I did about a year ago; one of my first ventures into digital painting without the use of marquees or lassoes. The linework is a little heavy, but I do like the mood.

I just recently found out about a series of Zelda games that was made by Phillips in the 90s. It seems it was an early venture into the world of CD games. Unfortunately, all they could think to do with the extra space was add highschool calibre voice acting and animation that makes sailors sea sick. Well done Phillips. Well. Done.

Furthermore, for those of you who don't know yet, theres an awesome mod of the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past out. It's easy to patch, go check it out. I warn you though. It is tough.

Learned a new skill

Just a sketch I did one sketchbook year ago. I know it's hard to see, coloured pencil doesn't scan in so well. I've started scanning in some of my skeches, and I hope to start experimenting with painting them in Photoshop or (if I can find it) Painter.

I was oogling the Cintiq online the other day. A mighty fine machine; the only thing that could be better than having one would be to have two. Dual Cintiq monitor displays. Oh. Yeah.
